WHY:
Peaks in the blood sugar can signal your body to store fat around your stomach, but monounsaturated fats halt the spikes, stopping buildup in its tracks.
BETTERYOU TIP:
How to tell if the avocado is ripe- Instead of giving it the ol squeeze try this:
Flick the small brown stem off the top of the avocado. If it comes off easily and you can see green underneath it, the avocado is ripe! If the stem doesn't come off or if you see brown, the avocado is not ripe.
*I also make my own guacamole simply by mixing avocados with store bough fresh salsa! Warning- ITS ADDICTING

Why:
Fiber aids in keeping your body's insulin levels low, which studies suggest may help shrink fat cells. One large baked sweet spud contains six grams of fiber - that's 24% of your recommended daily value!
BETTERYOU TIP:
Do not refrigerate raw sweet potatoes- it can alter their taste and flavor during cooking. They should be kept in the pantry (at normal room temp and dark area) and will last about a month this way.

Why:
Protein, healthy fats and Vitamin D (found in the yolk) all work in concert to slim you down by warding off hunger pangs.
BETTERYOU TIP:
The way I tell if my eggs are still good (my mom has chickens so she sends over alot!). Fill a bowl with cold water and put egg in. If it is fresh it will sink to the bottom of the bowl and probably lie on its side. An older egg balances on its tip. An egg that floats to the surface is a BAD EGG!

Why:
One cup promotes the growth of good bacteria in your gut, which crowds out other bugs that can cause bloating. (toss in some oats, unsalted seeds and/or nuts, berries and even some cinnamon. You have a quick breakfast on the go!
